72 bed residential Care Home in Crawley, West Sussex for Pilgrim’s Friend Society
The scheme is designed along the ‘Household Model of Care’ and so requires individual households to act independently and serve as ‘destinations’ in their own right, not requiring staff or visitors to pass through on the way to another part of the building. The design therefore seeks to present a series of ‘zones’ which progress from access-to-all, through to limited access into semi-private areas and then into defensible, private living quarters which are secured and closed-off to the main public areas.
The architectural form is intended to reflect Crawley’s ‘new town aesthetic’ with simple geometric forms, recessed coloured panels, and an interplay between simple patterns of brickwork, balustrades and large glazed panels.
